Crime Report, Feb. 1, 2016
Friday, January 22:
At 5:00 p.m., officers were dispatched to the area of Firestone and Woodruff after being alerted by a license plate reader system that a stolen vehicle was in the area. Upon arrival, officers located the vehicle and arrested the driver. The vehicle had been embezzled from Hertz in Los Angeles. The driver, a 21-year-old man from South Gate, was booked for grand theft auto.
Saturday, January 23
At 8:30 a.m., officers responded to the 12000 block of Downey Ave regarding a traffic collision. A driver had lost control of his vehicle when he swerved to avoid another car. The car crashed into an Edison pole and into the patio of the apartment complex located at 12020 Downey. Nobody was injured.
At 9:30 a.m., officers were dispatched to the area of Lakewood and the 105 Fwy regarding a possible assault. Words had been exchanged between the occupants of two vehicles traveling southbound on Lakewood from the 105 freeway. As the vehicles approached Rosecrans, one of the occupants fired a gun into the driver’s door of the other vehicle before fleeing the scene. Nobody was injured. Detectives are investigating.
At 9:00 p.m., officers cited a 21-year-old Downey man at Rio San Gabriel Park after he was found sitting in his vehicle in the parking lot smoking marijuana.
Sunday, January 24:
At 10:00 a.m., officers responded to a home in the 7600 block of 3rd Street regarding a man threatening to kill himself. The man was suffering from schizophrenia and after some negotiating by officers, the man surrendered peacefully and was taken for a psychological evaluation.
