Crime Report: 3/13/21
• Detectives are investigating a shooting that occurred on March 2 at about 10 am at Telegraph/Passons. Officers responded to the 9200 block of Telegraph Rd. regarding a shooting that just occurred. Officers determined that a named male suspect was the driver of the suspect vehicle, when his passenger, an unknown male adult, fired approximately three rounds at the victim's vehicle. One of the shots struck the rear left door, inches from where a 4 y/o child sat in the vehicle. This incident occurred in eastbound lanes of Telegraph Rd. west of Passons. Detectives responded to the scene and later arrested one of the suspects.
• On March 4 at approximately 4:15 am, a Downey police officer was patrolling in the area of Old River School Rd and Benares St. The officer observed a vehicle stopped in the middle of the street near a parked vehicle. The officer contacted the three male adults that were in the vehicle. The officer observed several tools used to steal catalytic converters in the passenger area and detained the three males. A nearby vehicle that appeared to be tampered with was located and the three males were placed under arrest for possession of stolen property. A search of the suspect vehicle revealed three catalytic converters in the trunk. A detective later interviewed the suspects.
• Detectives are investigating a robbery that occurred on March 4 at about 6:40 pm near the Rio Hondo River Trail, south of the 5 Freeway. The male suspect approached the female victim and brandished a knife. The suspect demanded the victim give him her necklace. The suspect forcibly removed the necklace from the victim's neck and fled on a bicycle northbound on the bike path.
• Detectives are investigating a carjacking that occurred on March 5 at about 9 pm in the 9400 block of Firestone Blvd. The victim drove to Rick’s Motel where he lives and parked in the south parking lot. The victim left the car running with the keys in the ignition and walked inside the office. An unknown male suspect entered the vehicle and the victim ran out of the office. The suspect began to back out of the parking lot, striking the victim with the vehicle, causing minor injuries to his arms and legs. The suspect fled the scene and was not located. The victim was transported to the hospital for medical treatment.
• On March 7 at approximately 10 pm, the male suspect contacted the male victim on the OfferUp app regarding a pair of $500 shoes. The suspect met the victim at his residence in the 11100 block of Newville. When the victim displayed the shoes, the suspect pointed a black firearm at him and took the shoes. The suspect ran to a waiting vehicle, driven by a female adult and the vehicle fled southbound. Officers observed the suspect vehicle on Lakewood Blvd. and Stewart and Gray Rd. and conducted a high-risk vehicle stop. The loss was recovered and a replica firearm was recovered from the suspect vehicle. The suspects were arrested for robbery.
