Crime Report: 2/25/20
•On 2/17/2020 at approximately 2:05 a.m., a witness contacted the police department stating he observed a male assaulting a female in a parking lot in the 11000 block of Paramount Blvd. As officers were responding, the witness claimed the male now had a handgun and was pointing it the reporting party. The reporting party fled in his vehicle and the suspect began chasing him in a black Jeep. The reporting party lost sight of the suspect vehicle in the area of Paramount/ Florence. Detectives are investigating.
•On 2/17/2020 at approximately 3:50 a.m., officers responded to a residence in the 12200 block of Woodruff Ave. regarding an 18-year-old male who had possibly overdosed and was not breathing. Downey Fire Department responded and administered Narcan which appeared to revive the male. The male was transported to the hospital for further treatment.
•On 2/17/2020 at approximately 8:30 p.m., officers responded to the Rio Hondo River Bed/north of Firestone Blvd. regarding a gunshot wound victim. Officers found a 26-year-old transient victim that advised he was in the riverbed, west of Crawford Park on the Downey side, when he was shot several times with a firearm. The victim was transported to St. Francis Hospital with severe injuries. The victim’s injuries were not life threatening. The Detective Bureau and Forensic Technicians responded to the scene. Detectives are investigating.
• On 2/18/2020 at approximately 6 a.m., the witness was driving past the Jack in the Box in the 9500 block of Imperial and observed the suspect discharge a firearm in the air from a vehicle. Officers observed the suspect vehicle pulling into an address on Woodruff and detained the suspect and another occupant. Two firearms were recovered from the vehicle and casings were located in the Jack in the Box parking lot. The driver and passenger suspect were arrested for discharging a firearm in public. No one was injured in the incident.
• On 2/19/2020 at approximately 11:50 p.m., a Downey resident was sitting inside his vehicle in the 7700 block of Ciro St. when a male Hispanic suspect opened the door, pointed an unknown type firearm at his head and demanded his phone. The victim pushed the gun away and began kicking the suspect. Suspect 1 and Suspect 2 began punching the victim. The suspects then fled in a white Ford Focus. Detectives are investigating.
•On 2/20/2020 at approximately 4:30 p.m., officers located a stolen vehicle in the 9500 block of Firestone parked at Arco. Witnesses reported the driver fled on foot eastbound. Offices located the male walking on Firestone. The driver, a 28-year-old male Los Angeles resident, was detained without incident. The male was identified by witnesses and arrested for auto theft.
• On 2/21/2020 at 8 p.m., the Downey Police Department conducted a DUI checkpoint at Florence / Smallwood. The following is a summary of the DUI/Drivers License checkpoint: 1,323 vehicles through checkpoint; 9 DUI investigations were conducted resulting in 1 DUI arrest; 31 citations were issued for miscellaneous violations.
•On 2/22/2020 at approximately 3:10 p.m. officers responded to a traffic collision with a vehicle into a building at Brookshire/ Imperial. The driver of one of the vehicles was uninjured and the driver of the second vehicle was transported to Kaiser Downey for minor injuries. Downey Fire Department examined the building and determined there was no immediate concern for the structure's integrity. No one inside the building was injured.
