Thursday, April 30 At 4:00 a.m., a Downey patrol officer was driving in the area of Bellflower and Stewart & Gray when he saw a vehicle that was wanted in connection to a robbery that occurred in the city of Norwalk. Downey officers stopped the vehicle and detained the two occupants until deputies from the Norwalk Sheriff’s Station arrived to take custody of the suspects and their vehicle.

 

At 8:30 p.m., a man was seen throwing an object next to a tree in front of the police station while at the same time making derogatory statements about the police. He then quickly fled the scene. Investigating officers located a “suspicious device,” which prompted them to request assistance from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Bomb Squad. The device was eventually detonated and determined to be harmless. Detectives are investigating.

 

Friday, May 1

At 6:30 a.m., Downey police officers responded to the 9300 block of Stewart & Gray regarding a commercial burglary investigation. Responding officers spoke with the business owner who reported unknown suspect(s) had cut a gate and door locks at the location to gain entry. When the locks were cut they activated the burglar alarm and it appears the suspects fled prior to taking any items from the business.

 

Sunday, May 3

At 4:00 p.m., Downey officers responded to the 12200 block of Woodruff regarding a theft of fuel investigation. As officers were responding to the call another call of a traffic accident involving fuel, was dispatched. Officers discovered that two male suspects stole approximately 600 gallons of fuel from an underground fuel tank from the Woodruff location. As the suspects were attempting to steal more items, an employee of the business interrupted the suspects and they drove off in a cargo van that was later determined to be stolen. During their escape, the suspects crashed into a motorist at Bellflower and Washburn Road and then abandoned their car. The collision caused a fuel spill requiring the road to be temporary closed down while the fuel spill was cleaned up. Detectives are investigating.
