Thursday, Sept. 13At 7:30 p.m., officers responded to the 8000 block of Comolette concerning a fight. Upon arrival, officers contacted the victim who had gone to the location to confront the suspect. A brief altercation occurred and at some point, the suspect took a knife out of his pocket and stabbed the victim. The victim suffered a small laceration and was treated at the scene by Downey paramedics. The suspect was arrested and charged with assault. Friday, Sept. 14 At 7:30 a.m., school administrators from Rio Hondo Elementary School (7731 Muller) discovered that two classrooms had been burglarized overnight. The suspect(s) entered by unknown means and took eight laptop computers and two video projectors. Detectives are investigating. Sunday, Sept. 16 At 5:40 a.m., the victim was walking in the area of Florence and Brookshire when a vehicle pulled up beside him. The passenger got out of the car brandishing a handgun and approached the victim, demanding his property. After taking the victim's wallet and cell phone, the suspect reentered the car and fled. Detectives are investigating. Friday, Sept. 21 At 7:53 a.m., an eleven year old male was struck by a vehicle when he ran out from between two parked cars on Via Amorita Rd just east of Woodruff Ave. The juvenile suffered a broken leg and was transported to Long Beach Memorial Hospital. Saturday, Sept. 22 At 10:29 p.m., officers responded to the intersection of Florence Ave and Paramount Blvd. The met with a male victim who reported he had been stopped in his vehicle for the traffic signal when a male suspect picked up a brick and threw it at the victim's vehicle, striking it. The suspect picked up the brick a second time and again threw it at the victim's vehicle, shattering the passenger side window. The suspect fled on foot but was located a short time later and arrested for the attack. The victim was not injured and it is unknown why the victim was targeted. Sunday, Sept. 23 At 10:07 a.m., a female was shopping at the Amapola Market, at 7429 Florence Ave, when a male transient grabbed the victim's purse and ran from the store. The suspect was chased by two store patrons, who along with another male subject were able to detain the suspect until officers arrived. The victim's purse was recovered and returned to her and the suspect was arrested for the theft. Wednesday, Sept. 26 At 7:42 a.m., Officers responded to the 12000 block of Downey Avenue in regards to a possible homicide investigation. When officers arrived they found a male victim deceased of an apparent homicide. Witnesses reported hearing sounds of a struggle and shortly after the sister of the victim arrived home and discovered the deceased. Some time later officers arrested a male suspect who was known to the victim for possible involvement in the homicide. Detectives are investigating and anyone with information is asked to call the Downey Police Department.
