Crime Report: 1/23/23
January 2
At 7:30 PM, officers located an occupied stolen vehicle in the parking lot of Aldi. Two subjects, a male and female, were arrested without incident. A loaded firearm was located in the passenger compartment.
January 4
At 11:50 PM, officers conducted a traffic stop in the strip mall parking lot adjacent to Paramount Blvd and Imperial Hwy. Officers conducted a search of the vehicle and located a loaded unregistered 9mm firearm. The driver of the vehicle was arrested for being a felon in possession of a firearm.
January 5
At 4:20 PM, officers responded to Golden Park on reports of a male who was following a female. When they arrived, they located the male and determined no crime had occurred. As the officers started to drive away, the male reached into his pocket and threw an object at an officer’s patrol vehicle causing damage. The male was arrested for vandalism.
January 6
At 7:20 PM, officers responded to a hit and run traffic collision involving a pedestrian. The pedestrian sustained major injuries and was transported to St. Francis. Officers processed the scene for evidence and the vehicle that left the scene was later located and impounded for evidence. The investigation is ongoing.
At 9:10 PM, officers stopped a stolen vehicle and detained the occupants. During a search of the vehicle, a loaded shotgun was located. Both occupants were arrested. It was later determined the driver of the stolen vehicle had fired the shotgun during an earlier altercation near Carfax and the 105 Fwy.
January 8
At 8:35 PM, officers conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle near Florence and Lakewood. When they contacted the driver, they noticed the front passenger was bleeding profusely from the face. It was determined the passenger had been assaulted and robbed in Norwalk and the driver was taking the passenger to the hospital. The Downey Fire Department responded and transported to the hospital. The LA County Sheriff’s Department: Norwalk Station, responded to the hospital and took over the investigation.
January 9
At 4:00 PM, officers responded to the area of 11100 Old River School Rd. regarding a strong-arm robbery of a chain worn around the victim’s neck. The victim had fought back against three suspects and sustained minor injuries. Officers located one of the suspects who was arrested for robbery.
January 11
At 7:40 PM, officers responded to a robbery at Home Depot located at 7121 Firestone Blvd. The suspect had shoplifted several items from the business and threatened employees with a knife when confronted about the theft. When officers arrived, the suspect fled from officers towards the riverbed and a short foot pursuit ensued. The suspect ultimately gave up and was arrested for robbery.
January 12
At 4:45 PM, while driving “Code 3” to a request for assistance, a Downey officer was traveling eastbound on Imperial Hwy, at Lakewood Blvd. The officer entered the left turn lane and initiated a U-turn to proceed westbound on Imperial Hwy. As the officer made the turn, he accelerated, lost control of his vehicle and collided with a vehicle stopped in the eastbound Imperial Hwy left turn lane. The officer and the occupants of the other vehicle were not injured. A report was taken to document the collision.
January 13
At 5:30 PM, officers located a stolen vehicle being driven in the area of Lakewood Blvd. and Telegraph Rd. Officers conducted a high risk traffic stop on the vehicle and the driver was taken into custody without incident.
January 15
At 10 AM, officers responded to 9931 Tweedy regarding a traffic collision. Upon arrival they located a single vehicle had collided with a parked vehicle and the driver was asleep behind the wheel, under the influence of alcohol. As the driver exited the vehicle, officers observed a loaded firearm and a large amount of white powdery substance in the door panel. The driver was eventually arrested for DUI and being in possession of a controlled substance while in possession of a loaded firearm.
January 16
At 10:40 pm, the victim parked his car in the parking lot of 8425 Iowa where he’s a nurse. The car was parked there for a 17-hour work shift and when he returned, he discovered a bullet hole in the right rear quarter panel.
