Dec. 22

Detectives are investigating an armed robbery that occurred at about 2 pm in the 13500 block of Lakewood Blvd. Two male suspects approached the recycling center at Food-4-Less and robbed them at gunpoint of $800. One suspect was armed with a small handgun. Both suspects entered a vehicle and fled the location southbound on Lakewood Blvd.

Dec. 26

At approximately 6 am, the adult male suspect went to his grandfather’s residence in the 7900 block of Melva St. The suspect was in the garage for approximately 5 minutes when an explosion was heard and the garage was engulfed in flames. The suspect ran out and advised the family to leave the house. Downey Fire Department responded and put out the fire and the suspect sustained moderate burns. The suspect refused to speak with Fire Department Arson Investigators and was transported to the hospital for his burns. Arson Investigators determined the fire was intentional. The suspect suffers from mental health issues. The suspect was treated at the hospital and later transported to a burn center. The suspect was placed on a mental health evaluation hold.

At approximately 3:30 pm, officers responded to the 10000 block of Imperial Hwy regarding a report of an armed and dangerous vehicle that was used in an armed robbery out of Lakewood Sheriff's jurisdiction. Officers located the vehicle and eventually stopped it near Orange St. and Rosecrans Ave. without incident. Two suspects were detained. Los Angeles Sheriff’s responded, impounded the vehicle, and released the occupants in the field.

Dec. 27

Detectives are investigating a strong arm robbery that occurred at about 5:35 pm in the 7800 block of Firestone Blvd. Two adult female suspects entered Rite Aid and attempted to steal bottles of liquor.  When confronted by an employee (victim), the females began to yell at the employee. Then one of the suspects struck the employee with a bottle.  The suspects were last seen fleeing in a vehicle, eastbound Firestone Blvd.
