Crime Report: 1/21/19

Friday, January 4:

At 9:15 pm, officers located a vehicle stolen out of Bell Gardens. The vehicle pulled into the gas station at Firestone Boulevard and Paramount Boulevard, the driver exited the car and fled on foot. The driver ran several hundred yards before stopping and giving up to officers. The driver, an adult male from Cudahy, was already on felony probation for auto theft. He was arrested and booked for Grand Theft Auto.

Between 10:30 pm and 2:30 am, officers worked a Downtown foot beat. During that time, officers issued four (4) Municipal Code citations, two (2) H&S citations, and one (1) traffic citation.

At 11 pm, officers responded to 9200 block of Firestone in regards to attempt robbery. Prior to police arrival, the suspect vehicle approached the three victims and a male suspect pointed a black semi-automatic at the victims and asked them what they had. In fear for their safety, all the victims fled on foot and the suspect vehicle left the area. Detectives are investigating.

Saturday, January 5:

At 5 am, officers located a stolen car in the area of Paramount and Telegraph. The female driver, a 34 year old resident of Whittier, was detained and arrested for auto theft. She was also found to be in possession of methamphetamine.

Between 10:30 pm and 2:30 am, officers worked the downtown area. During that time, officers issued two (2) Municipal Code citations for drinking in public, and one (1) traffic citation.

At 11:15 pm, officers responded to Telegraph and Passons regarding a hit and run traffic accident. Officers discovered that an intoxicated 29-year-old male victim from Downey was standing in the street when he was struck by a black truck which was traveling eastbound Telegraph Rd. The victim sustained a broken leg as a result of the impact and was transported to a local area hospital for treatment. Three hours after the collision, a 41-year-old suspect called the Pico Rivera Sheriff’s station and said he believed he struck something on Telegraph and Passons. Downey officers responded and arrested him for felony hit and run.

Sunday, January 6:

At 11:30 am, a Downey officer was driving in the parking lot of the Downey Inn at 11510 Lakewood Blvd, when he saw a vehicle parked in a handicap space. The officer went to the vehicle to investigate and saw a female in the front passenger seat. A records check revealed the vehicle was reported stolen out of Garden Grove. A shotgun, bandannas, and latex gloves were located in the vehicle during a search. The 37 year old male resident of Compton was arrested for auto theft and firearms charges. A 37 year old female resident of Los Angeles was arrested for narcotics paraphernalia.


Friday, January 11:

At 9:30 pm, officers responded to the 7100 block of Benares in regards to a robbery. The victim, a 16 year old Downey resident, took an Uber to his aunt's house on Benares. When he exited the car, he was approached by two males suspects. One of the suspects brandished a handgun while the other suspect took the victim's property from his pockets. The suspects fled the location in a vehicle. Detectives are investigating.

Between 10:30 pm and 3 am, officers worked a foot beat in the downtown area and issued six (6) municipal code citations.


Saturday, January 12:

At 8:10 am, officers responded to 9001 Apollo Way (Walmart) in regards to a robbery. Prior to the officer’s arrival, a suspect entered the location and selected the loss. The suspect then removed the loss from the packaging and concealed it. When a loss prevention officer contacted the suspect, the suspect pointed a closed knife at him. Downey officers located the suspect and he was arrested without incident and booked for robbery.

At 9 pm, officers responded to the 8100 block of Telegraph regarding a shooting. The parties involved in the shooting know one another. They were both at the location doing a child exchange. An argument ensued and the male suspect shot the male victim in the hand. The bullet went through the victim’s hand and struck him in the face. The suspect fled the location prior to police arrival. The victim was treated at a local area hospital for non-life threatening wounds. Detectives arrested the suspect in Ventura County without incident and he was booked for attempt homicide.

Sunday, January 13:

At 10 am, officers were dispatched to 10300 block of Lakewood Blvd. in regards to two burglaries that occurred earlier. Officers determined that the suspect(s) had pried open the rear door of a business located at 10311 1/2 Lakewood and took $30 in coins from inside. The suspects then cut a hole in the wall and entered the business located next door.. The suspect(s) removed $50,000 in merchandise from inside and fled the location. Detectives are investigating.
