Friday, May 22
At 9:15 p.m., Downey officers responded to the Downey High School Carnival regarding a robbery investigation. Responding officers spoke with two victims who reported an unknown suspect approached them from behind and punched one of the victim’s in the face. The suspect forcefully removed the victim’s backpack and the other victim’s cell phone and money. The suspect fled on foot. Officers searched the area and were unable to locate the suspect. Detectives are investigating.
At 10:55 p.m., officers responded to PIH (11500 Brookshire Ave) regarding a male patient who had assaulted hospital staff and fled outside. Officers found hospital staff struggling to detain the subject and assisted in gaining physical control by handcuffing him. The suspect was restrained onto a hospital gurney and was held by hospital staff on a psychiatric evaluation.
Saturday, May 23
At 5:00 p.m., Downey officers were sent to 10030 Lakewood Blvd (Arco Gas Station) regarding an assault investigation. Responding officers spoke with the victim who reported an unknown male approached him as he was preparing to pump gas. The suspect swung a 4-inch knife and lunged at the victim, but missed him. The suspect left in a car which was stopped by an officer a short distance from the location. The victim was uncooperative and claimed the altercation was verbal only and left after refusing to give officers more information. Surveillance video showed the suspect lunge at the victim with an unknown object. An independent witness positively identified the suspect. Two knives were located in the suspect's car. The suspect was arrested for the attempted assault.
At 5:25 p.m., Officers responded to 7814 Firestone Blvd (Stater Bros) regarding a robbery investigation. Officers spoke with the victim who reported that an adult male entered the market with a female and selected several store items. They placed the items in a hand basket and then exited without paying. The suspect was confronted outside by the manager and two other store employees. The employees grabbed the basket and the suspect attempted to strike the manager with his fist but missed. The suspect yelled at the manager and he and the female fled on foot. Detectives are investigating.
Sunday, May 24
At 12:05 a.m., officers responded to the 11400 block of Old River School Rd regarding a burglary investigation. Responding officers found that unknown suspects forced open the rear door to the business and had already fled the location. The business owner responded and confirmed that no items had been stolen. A witness later told officers that three adult male subjects had fled in a vehicle just prior to officer’s arrival.
At 12:30 a.m., officers were patrolling the area of 11000 Downey Avenue when they located a female adult laying on the ground to the front of the Hookah Lounge. The female appeared to be intoxicated and was screaming. She was arrested for public intoxication and transported to the police station. A few hours later, she began to vomit and Downey Fire Department was called to transport her to the hospital. While being attended to, she slapped a fireman on the arm. She was ultimately transported to a local hospital and received a citation for assaulting an emergency worker.
