Credit union collects 200 books for school

DOWNEY - Downey Federal Credit Union donated more than 200 new books to Ward Elementary School, primarily to build classroom libraries in grades kindergarten to third grade.Both books and monetary donations were collected from credit union employees and account holders. Rose Hills Memorial Park in Whittier also made a donation. Collection bins were placed in the credit union's main branch and at the express service office at Downey Regional Medical from Nov. 15 - Dec. 10. DFCU officials delivered the books to the school, where teachers could choose age-appropriate reading material for their classroom libraries for students to use. "Downey Federal Credit Union is very supportive of the educators in Downey who want to build up their supply of reading materials and encourage learning," said Barbara Lamberth, president and CEO of Downey Federal Credit Union. "It is important that all teachers foster a positive attitude towards reading for their class. The credit union is happy to provide age-appropriate books for students to achieve reading success."
