Council protests
Dear Editor:Again a group of people appeared before the City Council for the 17th straight meeting to protest a police shooting. It is an excellent example of an exercise in futility - a big waste of time better spent on city business. Each time we patiently and politely listen to the same old story told over and over again, even with the help of a person in a clown suit. In some foreign countries, particularly in South America, police wade into one of these demonstrations, crack a few skulls, break some bones and that ends its. Police work is a dangerous, difficult and thankless job. We in Downey are fortunate to have the very best people in the profession. They do a great job for us. They serve and protect us 24/7. Without police we would live in a dangerous jungle. Byron Dillon Downey
