City donates $2,500 to Rancho Foundation

DOWNEY – The Downey City Council on Tuesday approved a $2,500 donation to the Rancho Los Amigos Foundation at the request of Mayor Pro Tem Blanca Pacheco.

The funds had initially been intended for a table at the Amistad Gala, a black-tie fundraiser that the Rancho Foundation holds each year. However, this year’s event was canceled for the second year in a row due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic.

The city received a request from the foundation – submitted by Pacheco, who sits on the foundation’s board of directors – to convert the initial table reservation to a straight donation, used to support patient programs and initiate a matching gift campaign with current donors and the community.

The item was approved unanimously as a part of the consent calendar with no discussion.
