DOWNEY — Downey city council candidate Horacio Ortiz Jr. has raised nearly $50,000 since launching his grassroots campaign in April.

According to his campaign, Ortiz has collected $46,907 in financial contributions, which Ortiz said will be used “to connect with voters and effectively communicate my platform.”

“I am humbled by the overwhelming support and encouragement I have received from my community,” Ortiz said. “Together, we can build a stronger, united Downey that reflects the future unlimited and values of its residents. I am ready to serve as a steadfast advocate and champion for our community’s needs.”

Ortiz is running in city council District 1, currently represented by Timothy Horn, who was appointed after Blanca Pacheco resigned to become state Assemblymember.

Pacheco has endorsed Ortiz, as has Rep. Robert Garcia, state Sen. Bob Archuleta, Supervisor Janice Hahn, Mayor Pro Tem Mario Trujillo, former mayor Mario A. Guerra, and the entire Downey planning commission, which Ortiz chairs.
