Cities continue sharing library system

DOWNEY - The Downey City Library will continue to share collections and library automation operations with Santa Fe Springs after the Downey City Council approved a one-year extension on Tuesday.The two cities have shared library operations since 1979, allowing joint access to an automation system dealing with cataloging, serial control, acquisitions, bibliographic and authority control, public access online catalog and more. The computer system is located in Downey's library and Santa Fe Springs will contribute about $45,000 toward the cost of the services. The agreement was unanimously approved by the City Council on Tuesday without discussion.
