Children's reading event April 25

DOWNEY - A reading event to help promote early literacy among children will be held April 25 from 10 a.m. to noon in the Downey Memorial Christian Church parking lot.Children from various grades will take turns reading sections from their favorite books. Each child will read for approximately 10 minutes before handing the book to the next child. This will continue until their particular book is finished. All books will be age-appropriate and chosen by the Downey City Library. Free fresh-baked bread will also be given away at the event. For more information, call Shirley Johnson at (562) 862-2378.
