Check thieves
Dear Editor:I am very disappointed with the Letters to the Editor in last week's Patriot. Really? People are upset with the naming of a new shopping mall that Downey does not need (seeing that they can not occupy those we already have built)? How about getting mad and upset that someone is taking mail out of the mailboxes in Downey and nothing is being done to alert Downey residents. I am a caregiver for a wonderful 92-year-old longtime Downey resident who mailed a check payable to the IRS for $2,000. The check was taken from the Downey post office, washed and rewritten to a person she does not know and cashed at her Downey bank for $850. Now that is a problem Downey residents need to be made aware of and what is Downey going to do about it? Nancy Long Downey
