Charles Allen III was teacher in Bellflower
BELLFLOWER – Charles Francis Allen III passed away from natural causes in Salt Lake City, Utah while visiting family. He was 74.
Born in Phoenix, Ariz., Charlie grew up on the Colorado River Indian Reservation in Parker, Ariz. He attended Arizona State College at Flagstaff, studying education and fine art.
Upon graduation with a Bachelor of Science in Education, Charlie moved to California and began a 50-year career teaching junior high and high school in the Bellflower Unified School District. Charlie went on to earn a M.S. in Education at Cal State Fullerton.
He found teaching so rewarding that when asked when he planned to retire, he would often answer “As soon as I find something more fun to do.”
He was well-known among local artists and beloved for his involvement with the Koroneburg Renaissance Festival.
Charlie is survived by his daughter, Heather, brother John, sister Margaret, and many friends.
A memorial service will take place June 20 at 10:30 a.m. at the Mission Inn, located at 3649 Mission Inn Ave. in Riverside. All are welcome at the service and are also invited to a memorial exhibit of his artwork on June 21 at the dA Center for the Arts in Pomona from 4-9 p.m.
