Cerritos city manager announces retirement

CERRITOS – Cerritos city manager Art Gallucci will retire effective June 30, 2023, the city announced.

“For the past 51 years, I have had the privilege of working for the City of Cerritos, and I have been fortunate to serve as city manager since 1991,” Gallucci said in a news release. “As I reflect upon my career, I cannot think of having a more exciting position than the one I have had here. I wish the City only the best and I am convinced that the City will continue to grow and prosper as it has in years past.”

Gallucci was appointed city manager in April 1991. He served as assistant city manager for 10 years prior to his appointment. 

A veteran public administrator, Gallucci was first hired by Cerritos in 1971. 

He began his government career working for the United States Forest Service, assigned to fire suppression efforts in Idaho. This experience inspired him to pursue a career in public service. 

Gallucci has been Cerrito’s lead negotiator in major commercial and office developments, including the Cerritos Auto Square, Cerritos Towne Center and Lincoln Station Shopping Center. 

He has been active in the development of all public facilities, including the parks, Cerritos Olympic Swim and Fitness Center, Cerritos Library, Cerritos Center for the Performing Arts and Cerritos Senior Center at Pat Nixon Park. 

He was also instrumental in the construction of the city’s recycled water system that has saved millions of gallons of potable water.

Other major projects for Gallucci include the development of the Cerritos Sheriff’s Station/Community Safety Center; affordable senior housing projects Emerald Villas, Pioneer Villas, Ivy Park at Cerritos and Fountain Walk; the Cerritos Sculpture Garden; and the Cerritos on Wheels (COW) service. 

Throughout the years he continued to manage the expansion and improvement of city facilities, services and programs.
