Car dealer wants to hold auctions

DOWNEY - A Downey used car dealership's request to conduct weekly public auction has been continued to the Feb. 15 Planning Commission meeting. The dealership, My Charity Auto Auction, is at 7345 Firestone Blvd. in a building previously utilized by a new car dealer. The property is owned by Jerry Andrews. According to its permit application, My Charity Auto Auction is proposing to use the existing showroom as office space and conduct Saturday auctions in a vehicle display area. The dealership would operate as a regular used car dealership during the week. During auctions, customers will be seated in the former repair building and vehicles will be pulled to the front for showcasing, according to a staff report. The Planning Commission heard testimony Wednesday but put off a decision until later this month. City staff recommended the auction's approval on several conditions, including limiting the delivery of vehicles, requiring the auction remain open to the public, requiring submissions of weekly inventories and limiting amplified noise.
