'Bye Bye Birdie' opening in Garden Grove
GARDEN GROVE -- "Bye Bye Birdie" opens June 16 at Garden Grove’s historic Gem Theatre, presented by One More Productions.
"Bye Bye Birdie" takes place in 1958. Rock-and-roll star Conrad Birdie has just been drafted into the U.S. Army. His down and out songwriter and agent, Albert, and Albert’s secretary Rosie, hatch a plan for a farewell performance to take place on the "Ed Sullivan Show."
To cap off the performance, Birdie will give one last kiss to Kim MacAfee, an avid member of the Conrad Birdie fan club from Sweet Apple, Ohio.
Everything seems to go according to plan, but no one has counted on the jealous wrath of Kim’s boyfriend, her star-struck family, Albert’s overbearing mother or the outrageous devotion from the Conrad Birdie fan club.
This Broadway smash-hit musical is a fun and energetic show the whole family can enjoy, complete with a live 50’s rock-and-roll band.
"Bye Bye Birdie" is directed by Damien Lorton and book by Michael Stewart. The cast includes Chris Peduzzi as Albert Peterson, Adriana Sanchez as Rosie Alvarez, Zackary Martinez as Conrad Birdie, Megan Oviatt as Kim MacAfee, and Andrea Goldin as Mae Peterson.
Performances run from Thursday, June 16 through Sunday, July 10. Performances are at 8 p.m., Thursdays through Sundays, and 2 p.m. on Sundays. On Saturday, July 2, there will be an additional 2 pm show.
