Bellflower resident wins Alaskan cruise

BELLFLOWER - Bellflower resident Barbara Winkler is departing for an eight-day Alaskan cruise today after winning a national contest for volunteer work.The Cabot Creamery Cooperative chose Winkler as one of its 40 winners after learning about her work with Quilts of Valor, a nationwide group of quilters who create quilts for military veterans. In addition to quilting, Winkler often purchased fabric and paid for shipping out of her own pocket. The cruise departs from the Port of Seattle today and returns Sept. 21. On-board the cruise will be 20 "community celebrities" as chosen by local radio stations.
