AYSO announces sponsors for Commissioner's Cup
DOWNEY – Downey AYSO has announced two new sponsors -- the Mexican Consultate General Office and L.A. Galaxy -- for the Downey AYSO Commissioner’s Cup taking place this Saturday, Dec. 12, at Griffiths Middle School.
The Commissioner’s Cup is a soccer tournament for boys and girls U-10 and U-14 teams (U-8 teams play in friendlies). Trophy ceremonies begin at 3 p.m.
The Mexican Consulate General Office provided Downey AYSO with a monetary contribution and new soccer balls.
The consulate’s partners will be offering free medical services and health plan information at the Commissioner’s Cup, including free flu shots and glucose, cholesterol, STD and vision screenings.
There will also be on-site enrollment for families in need of health insurance.
The Los Angeles Galaxy pledged a “Championship Moment” experience for division finalists.
The “Championship Moment” includes ticket discounts to the Galaxy’s home opener, acknowledgement of Commissioner’s Cup winners at the game, and a post-match private autograph session with Galaxy players.
Every player who participates in Downey AYSO is guaranteed to play at least half a game, regardless of skill level.
"By nature of our sport, our children are always in constant and fluid motions,” said Paul Kim, regional commissioner for Downey AYSO, Region 24. “As a result, throughout this fall season, I personally observed over 1,600 children burning calories and getting excellent cardiovascular workouts through a time period that spanned over 10 to 11 weeks.”
