Auto Club offering free window VIN etching

DOWNEY — In an effort to help prevent vehicle theft, the Auto Club is offering free VIN etching for car windows next week.

The free event is scheduled for Wednesday, Oct. 23, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Auto Club’s Downey location.

Car window VIN etchings are small but visible enough to deter thieves, according to law enforcement officials.

Members and non-Auto Club members can receive etchings as long as their vehicle registration and driver’s license are valid.

The event is sponsored by the Auto Club, California Highway Patrol Santa Fe Springs station, and National Insurance Crime Bureau.
