Asian tiger mosquitoes found in El Monte

EL MONTE - The Asian tiger mosquito, an aggressive daytime biter that can transmit tropical diseases, has been confirmed in El Monte and South El Monte, vector control officials said Monday.Officials with the Greater Los Angeles County Vector Control District plan to canvas the area to determine the extent of the infestation. Public health officials are warning residents to help eliminate the mosquito by eliminating standing water around their homes and to report black and white mosquitoes. Asian tiger mosquitoes prefer wet, hot and humid areas with lots of plants, shrubs and tree foliage. They can also be found in bird baths, rain gutters, flower pots and anyplace with standing water.
