As of Monday, Downey has 236 coronavirus cases

DOWNEY — Downey has 236 residents who have tested positive for the coronavirus, according to statistics released Monday by the L.A. County Department of Health.

The numbers come as Gov. Gavin Newsom said that parts of the state will reopen Friday, with conditions.

Florists, toy stores, sporting good stores, bookstores and other eligible retailers will be allowed to reopen with curbside pickup. Shopping malls are not eligible.

“We are entering into the next phase this week ... with modifications, we will allow retail to start operating across the spectrum,” Newsom said at his daily press briefing. “This is a very positive sign and it has happened only for one reason: The data says it can happen.”
