Art Morris dies at 93

Philanthropist and community leader Art Morris, who played an instrumental role in the creation and advancement of Downey Community Hospital, died over the weekend at age 93. Morris's father donated the land the hospital is located on, and Morris himself contributed more than $1 million to the hospital's radiology department.

The city of Downey celebrated "Art Morris Day" last Feb. 8.

Morris also was an ardent support of the Downey Symphony and was set to conduct the orchestra last month but an illness kept him away.
