Army advisory group meets at space center

DOWNEY - More than 70 people, including elected officials and local dignitaries, attended a meeting of the U.S. Army Los Angeles Community Advisory Board, held Jan. 21 at the Columbia Memorial Space Center.The board discussed upcoming projects and plans, particularly the "Community Salute to Future Soldiers Day" taking place May 16 at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion. The board, which is comprised of Army personnel and local leaders including Tommy Lasorda, Los Angeles Councilman Dennis Zine and Downey Councilman Mario Guerra, meets regularly to discuss ways to assist the U.S. Army Los Angeles Battalion. "This is one of the boards that I am proudest to represent and serve on. It is an honor to help our United States Army in any way possible and I enjoy working with such a distinguished and dedicated group of community leaders," Guerra said. "It was also great to have many visit our Columbia Space Center for the first time and see what history has transpired here and what great future endeavors we have for our youth at our space learning center."
