Anna Eich

Anna Maria Eich was born in Los Angeles, California, on July 24, 1924, to German parents, Richard and Helene Koettnitz. She was the firstborn of three children, followed by her sister, Ilsa, and brother, Gerhart. In 1942, Anna graduated from Fremont High School. She     began working as a bookkeeper for a large insurance company where she met a number of life-long friends. In 1947, she married Gerhard Eich. The marriage was a long and happy one that produced two children, Marlene in 1948 and Paul in 1954.

Anna and Gerhard raised their family in Downey and became members of Messiah Lutheran Church. Anna continued working as a typist and then a bookkeeper, balancing her duties as a daughter, wife and mother. She increased the amount of hours she worked until she was working full time when Paul was in high school.

In October 1998, Anna's life changed significantly. Gerhard, her husband of 50 years, passed away, followed by her sister, Ilsa, a week later and her husband’s brother, Eugene, before month end.

Anna made many dear, new friends while maintaining and building her relationships with older relatives and friends. She delighted in sharing stories and life experiences and received as much love and friendship as she gave.

In 2010, Anna gained a treasured daughter-in-law, Ingrid Eich. In 2011, at age 87, Anna was blessed with the birth of her only grandchild, Annalisa Rose Eich. She delighted in showing off pictures of Annalisa and was always happy when she was around her cherished granddaughter.

After a fall on February 13, 2015, Anna battled for over two months and five hospital stays to regain her health. Sadly, on April 18, 2015, following an agonizing series of complications, she lost her battle for life.

Anna will be sorely missed by her many loving relatives and friends who can thank God that she was part of their lives.

Rest in peace, Oma.
