Dr. Allan Redeker passed away at home on Saturday, January 23, 2021. He was 96.

Dr. Redeker was born in Lincoln, Nebraska on September 10, 1924. In 1930 the family – parents Fred and Fern, Allan, and his brother Stan – moved to Boone, Iowa, which Allan always referred to fondly as his hometown.

Fred opened a furniture store which became a successful business for generations. After high school, Allan served three years in the U.S. Army, and later attended medical school at Northwestern University School of Medicine.

After a long and illustrious career in medicine – as a physician-scientist and educator with a distinguished career in liver disease as a faculty member from the University of Southern California, and Professor of Medicine in Hepatology – Dr. Redeker fully retired in his 90s.

Dr. Redeker is survived by his wife, Andrea; daughter, Martha (Gene); son James (Denise); and daughters by marriage, Lizbeth (Dennis) and Alise (Keith). His son, Tom, predeceased him in death in 2020. He is also survived by his six grandchildren, Sean, Erin, Kyle, Matthew, James and Mia, and four great-grandchildren, Kirsten, Holden, Paige and Lincoln.

Dr. Redeker was a devoted Christian, and a cherished family man, colleague, mentor and friend.

In September, there will be a private family memorial service in Boone, Iowa. In remembrance, a gift may be made to Heartfelt Help Foundation (heartfelthelpfoundation.com).
