Bosco advanced to CIF championship game
NORWALK -- Last Friday St. John Bosco’s football team took down Bishop Amat High School, 63–10, in a CIF semi-final playoff game at Cerritos College.
The win propels Bosco into the Pac – 5 Championship Game versus Centennial High (Corona ) Saturday night at Angel Stadium. Kickoff is at 8 p.m. and will be televised by Fox Sports West.
However, before Bosco could think about a second championship run within the last three years they had to get past Bishop Amat last Friday.
This contest simply came down to Bosco’s defense keeping Bishop Amat’s skill players from making the “big play” for touchdowns.
Besides shutting down the Lancer’s offense Bosco turned their defense into offense and scored touchdowns on three Bishop Amat turnovers.
The Braves exploded for a 28-point scoring bonanza in the third quarter to break open the game. The scoring was lead by defensive lineman Jacob Callier who scored two defensive touchdowns in the span of three minutes.
With the score 28-3 in Bosco’s favor. Bishop Amat tried to convert a 4th down play, but when the ball was fumbled near the line of scrimmage Callier scooped it up and rumbled 40 yards for the score.
On the Lancers’ ensuing possession Bishop Amat tried a trick play that when the ball was being passed back to Lancer quarterback Damain Garcia, Callier stepped in front of the pass for the “pick-six”.
After Callier’s second touchdown pushed Bosco’s lead to 42-3 the Braves fan base could start to anticipate a return trip to the title game.
Just as the Bosco defense set the tone early in the contest it was fitting that the defense ended the evening’s scoring. Bosco cornerback Stephan Blaylock jumped the slant route of the Lancer receiver and took his interception to the house and put the explanation point on this 63–10 Bosco victory.
