56 students earn high school diplomas at Downey Adult School
DOWNEY -- Downey Adult School will celebrate its high school diploma graduation on June 25 with a public ceremony that begins at 5 p.m.
As of Monday, 56 students have earned their diplomas, including 15 GEDs and 41 school diplomas. Thirty-seven of the graduates are women.
"The majority of students returning to complete their equivalency have had to overcome many personal obstacles to get to where they are today," school officials said.
Female graduates range in age from 19-42, with an average age of 25. The men range in age from 19-35, and also have an average age of 25.
More students are expected to qualify for graduation before the end of the school year, officials said. Students must complete all course work and/or pass all four subjects of the GED by June 25.
Graduation ceremonies take place in the Harriet Paine Event Center on the Downey Adult School campus.
