4 residents apply for City Council vacancy

DOWNEY — Four people have submitted applications for the City Council’s District 1 vacancy.

Applicants include Timothy Horn, Hector Lujan, Horacio Ortiz Jr. and Elvira Meraz.

The council is scheduled to interview each candidate at a public hearing Jan. 24, with a potential swearing in two days later.

The city council has until Feb. 2 to make a decision on who to fill the seat formerly held by Assemblywoman Blanca Pacheco, who vacated the position in December last year to assume her current role.

Should the council be unable to select an interim, then the District 1 seat will remain vacant until a candidate is elected in November.
