DOWNEY -- Three residents successfully filed papers to appear on November's City Council election, when voters will choose a successor to termed-out council member Fernando Vasquez.

Claudia Frometa, an emergency management professional, Tony Hernandez-Ayala, an insurance agency owner, and Carrie Uva, an attorney and realtor, qualified to run in the Nov. 6 election.

They are looking to replace Vasquez in District 4, an area that covers northeast Downey. Vasquez is being termed out of office after eight years on the council.

Nobody filed to run against Mayor Sean Ashton, who represents District 2 in southwest Downey. That election will likely be canceled to save costs.
