2010 AT (After Tesla)

Dear Editor:So Downey got stabbed in the back by Tesla Motors; too bad. Now what the city should do, and should have been doing, is to lobby Wal-Mart to bring one of their "supercenters" to Downey. It would fit nicely on that land that Tesla turned down, and would be a great source of income for the city from the day they open the doors; and the city wouldn't have to wait until "if" and "when" those very expensive cars started rolling out the doors, if ever. I don't expect there would be a very long line of customers waiting for them, do you? - Jim Lucas, Downey

Dear Editor: After reading Janice Allen's letter regarding Tesla, I feel like she and I are on the same page. (Letters to the Editor, 5/28/10) Had our City Council paid more attention, they would have known this was coming. In the past months, I have read several articles about Tesla nosing around Fremont. This should have been a warning to our heads-in-the-clouds council. I wrote The Downey Patriot when Tesla first came here. I said they had been opened seven years and never showed a profit and I did not want them here. Then Councilman Mario Guerra wrote saying he didn't like my letter's attitude. Shame he didn't at least look into what Tesla was doing. It bothers me that cities around us are growing while Downey sits stagnant. - Doris Hannon, Downey
