'Lion King' opens at Pantages

HOLLYWOOD - "The Lion King" opened at the Pantages Theatre last week for a limited holiday engagement through Jan. 12.Individual tickets can be purchased online at hollywoodpantages.com or by calling (800) 982-2787. Performances are Tuesday through Thursday at 7:30 p.m., Friday at 8 p.m., Saturday at 2 p.m. and 8 p.m., and Sunday at 1 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. A special 1 p.m. matinee is on Jan. 8. "The Lion King" began as a 1994 animated feature-length film developed and produced by Disney. The story, a coming of age parable set among animals indigenous to its setting, the African savanna, tells the tale of Simba, the lion cub who rises to be the king of the jungle. The North American touring productions of "The Lion King" have been seen by more than 15 million theatergoers and grossed over $1 billion to date. It has played more than 70 cities across North America. In its 17th year, "The Lion King" is the highest-grossing Broadway show in New York history and remains one of the most popular stage musicals in the world.
