Dear Editor:After reading the editorial "Torture Admission Would Help U.S. Standing in World" (9/5/13), I wanted to write a whole book which I started to, and then said to myself, "You can't change a liberal progressive mind." Our admission to a lie would not change anything in the Muslim world - either they like us or they don't. Most Americans know you cannot change a fanatic's mind. Instead of trying to change America's minds, why doesn't author Azizah Y. al-Hibri and her organization try to change the minds of the Islamic radicals who are trying to kill us? The last thing I will say is just because one is a professor and a lawyer, that doesn't mean you have common sense or that you are smart. Remember: all Muslims are not terrorists, but all terrorists are Muslims. George J. Hofstetter Downey

Dear Editor: My response to Azizah Y. al-Hibri is that her last paragraph should read, "If the Muslim world wants to gain respect and admiration in the USA, the Muslims should refrain from performing atrocities like bombing the World Trade Center, setting off bombs and killing innocent people throughout the world. Regarding Guantanamo, I haven't heard of anyone imprisoned there who was beheaded, shot in the back, or bombed. No noses, ears, legs or arms have been removed. The only thing hurt is their pitiful pride. What does she propose we should do with those that harm our people? Should we merely say "naughty, naughty" and release them back to society to commit more terrorist acts in our county and Europe? My question to Azizah and others who come to America to try to change our laws and way of life is, "Why?" If our country is so insensitive, why are you here? Martha Call Downey
