Warren High wins trophy for solar boat
DOWNEY – Warren High School's robotics team brought home a first place trophy from the 2014 MWD Solar Cup competition held at Lake Skinner May 16-18. More than 800 students from 40 high schools throughout Southern California competed in the four-day event.
The Bears team won first place for their public service message, which was the highest rated public service video with a perfect score of 250 points.
The Metropolitan Water District's annual Solar Cup is the nation's largest solar-powered boat competition and is a school year-long program in which students build, equip and race the 16-ft., single-seat canoes powered only by the sun.
Warren High's team was sponsored by the Central Basic Municipal Water District and coached by teacher Glenn Yamasaki.
