The St. John Bosco Braves football team is preparing for the start of their 2014 football season and the defense of their Trinity League, C.I.F., state and national titles.
Coach Negro has reloaded his talent on offense with the likes of senior quarterback Josh Rosen (UCLA) and junior running back Sean McGrew. Add standout receiver Jared Harrell to the mix and Bosco’s offense looks very potent.
Bosco will start their season on the road against the St. Louis Crusaders of Honolulu at Aloha Stadium on Aug. 22 at 7 p.m. The Braves will then travel to Excelsior Adult School in Norwalk on Sept. 5 to play the Norwalk Lancers at 7 p.m.

The Warren High School football team is preparing for the start of their 2014 football season. Bear head coach Raul Lara and his staff have been seeing their players get bigger, faster and stronger due to their offseason weight training program.
Bear linebacker coach William Alo said that “strong safety Jordan Mayes, inside linebacker Steven Zepeda and free safety Benjamin Donerson continue to standout.” Mayes has been especially impressive in the weight room by bench pressing 185 lbs. 18 times.
Lineman Joseph Danieux bench pressed 185 lbs. 32 times and fellow lineman Andrew Wickens power cleaned 185 lbs. 31 times in competition.
Alo also said that this year’s team is “hungry and eager to learn.” Gone are the days of “socks and flipflops in the weight room” and here to stay are phrases “get to or got to” and get on the B.U.S. (brotherhood, unity and sacrifice). There is a definite change of attitude in the Bear football program.
Coach Lara stated when he took over the Warren High football program that “the weight room will become a shrine for those who dedicate themselves to getting better.” The results are starting to show with improvement in size and strength. These improvements, however, must now be translated to on-the-field performance.
Warren will scrimmage against Burbank Burroughs at Burbank Burroughs on Friday, Aug. 29, at 7 p.m. Warren will open their season on the road at St. Paul against the Swordsmen on Sept. 5.
Coach Lara, his staff and players are looking forward to the start of the 2014 football season.

The Downey High School football team is preparing for the start of their 2014 season. The C.I.F. mandated three week “dead period” is over and the Vikings have been practicing daily at 3:15 p.m.
Two-a-days will take place shortly in preparation for what hopes to be a 14-game season and C.I.F. Southeast Division championship. Downey won the 2012 C.I.F. title by defeating La Serna but were eliminated by Diamond Bar in the first round of the Southeast Division playoffs in 2013.
Viking offensive coordinator Dexter Davis has also been busy putting together a potent offense that will move the chains and score some points. Davis’ offense hopes to showcase the many weapons Downey has by utilizing his team’s speed and playmaking ability.
Coach Davis, now in his fifth year, is excited about this season and the skill players he has to work with. Sophomore Trevor Hill is taking snaps with the first offensive unit and appears to be the starting quarterback. Hill will have senior running backs Josh Flores and Justin Huff to hand the ball off to in addition to a very talented junior running back in Daveon Vigilante.
Senior receivers Jacob Cook, Jason Thomas and Ricky Wong will all catch passes from Trevor Hill as will juniors Jaylen Thomas, Cameron Carr and Albert Padilla. Junior Giovanni DeLoera will anchor the offensive line from his left tackle position.
Downey will scrimmage against Division I and the Trinity League’s Orange Lutheran Lancers on Friday, Aug. 22, at 5 p.m.
Coach Williams, his staff and players are looking forward to the start of the 2014 football season.
