Dear Editor: I moved into my house in 1957 and lived, at that time, in Rivera, Calif.

In December of that year we got to vote to annex to Downey, which we did. One of the main reasons was because Downey had its own fire and police departments. Thank goodness we still do.

Why would we want to be under control by the Sheriff’s Department, who can’t seem to stay out of the paper with their bad behaviors?

I am so glad enough other people in Downey voted to keep what we have.
