Library launches summer reading programs

DOWNEY – Registration began this week for the Downey City Library’s free independent summer reading program for adults, “Literary Elements.” Participants receive a “book bingo” card and earn a chance to win an e-reader and other prizes.

Also beginning this week was the teen summer reading program, which runs through July 26.

The free program encourages teens to “Spark a Reaction” and read this summer whether for pleasure or to get a head start on books for the next school year. Young adults ages 13-19 may join the program, win prizes and attend exclusive events.

Teens that complete the program receive a free book and become eligible to attend a pizza party July 25. Teens also have a chance at the pizza party to win an e-reader and other prizes.

The e-readers, a Kindle Paperwhite Wi-Fi edition, was donated by the Friends of the Downey City Library.

For more details, or to sign up, visit the library or call the Adult Information Desk at (562) 904-7360, ext. 132.
