Construction has begun on the new Chick-fil-A restaurant in Downey, anticipated to open this September. The stand-alone restaurant at 8613 Firestone Blvd. next to Downey High School is creating about 80 new jobs, officials said. Featuring dual drive-thru ordering, the restaurant is part of a large expansion by Chick-fil-A, which plans to open 88 restaurants across the U.S. in 2014.

To celebrate the opening, Chick-fil-A is giving away meals to the first 100 people in line for its grand opening. Chick-fil-A says it has given away $20 million in free food since 2003 as part of the promotion.
