Dear Editor:When I read in The Downey Patriot that our trash rates are going up, I just thought that, well, what can the citizens of Downey do? ("Trash Rates Going Up Again," 3/28/13) The Calmet company has a monopoly on picking up our trash. Only Calmet can legally pick up our trash. The police can give you a citation for doing so. There is no other business that has this power over Downey. The people in America are losing their freedom a little bit at a time. Mike Sandoval Downey
