Neglect for bicyclists

Dear Editor:I've had many discussions with Downey officials about bike access within the city. A pet peeve of mine is Downey Landing, a highly touted signature project of the city, which has signs posted at all of its entrances, and on various buildings, noting that bicycles, skateboards, etc. are prohibited. When the city was asked about this - after all, the property was originally conveyed from the Department of Defense to the city of Downey for redevelopment - I was told that this was a decision made by the developer regarding access to HIS property. That the city did not think ahead to ensure that those who wished to use a bicycle to access the shops and services available at Downey Landing could do so says volumes about the neglect for bike-riders within the corridors of City Hall. I am very pessimistic over the future of Tierra Luna(cy), in this regard and others. Drew Kelley Downey
