DOWNEY - Eugene L. Hicks, a resident of Downey for 56 years, passed away March 14.He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Roma (Krueger) Hicks; daughters Pamela Nieting and Dolores Toscano; sons Gerald (Gail) Hicks and Douglas (Jimmy) Aragon; seven grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and stepsister DeeMarcia Cody. He was preceded in death by parents George and Florence Hicks and his grandparents who raised him George and Pearl Hicks. Eugene was born in Grand Island, Nebr., and graduated from Hastings High School. He worked at the Hastings Tribune before moving to California, where he worked for the Los Angeles Times for 40 years. A funeral service was held March 21 at Rose Hills.
