DOWNEY - As part of his "Healthy Downey" campaign as mayor, Mario Guerra will begin hosting twice-monthly community walks to encourage healthy eating and an active lifestyle.Walks will be held Wednesdays at different parts of town. The first two walks - Jan. 16 and Jan. 23 - will be held on the Downey High School track. Residents are invited to walk while sharing their ideas and concerns with the mayor. Walks start at 6 p.m. and are expected to last about an hour. "I'm excited to be able to begin the first ever 'Mayor's Walking Wednesdays' and look forward to interacting with our residents and sharing with them all of the great things that are going on in our city," Guerra said. Future walks are scheduled for Feb. 6 and 20 (Columbia Memorial Space Center); March 13 and 27 (Civic Center); April 10 and 24 (Downey schools, exact locations TBA); May 8 and 22 (Barbara J. Riley Community and Senior Center) and June 12 and 26 (Apollo Park and Wilderness Park, respectively).
