Youth music group target of $25,000 burglary

SANTA FE SPRINGS - On Jan 21, roughly $25,000 worth of equipment was stolen from Impulse Drum and Bugle Corps, a non-profit youth organization.

The burglars rented a storage unit at A-American Self-Storage in Santa Fe Springs, California. They entered their unit, closed the door, broke through the walls of their rented unit to raid six adjoining units.

Upon entering the Impulse storage unit, they found two thump subwoofers, two Mackie SP1530s, one Yamaha 32 channel mixer, three Adams timpani, a djembe, a Remo bass drum and a haul of miscellaneous percussion hardware. They returned later in the evening, cutting the lock on Impulse’s storage unit in order to load the large equipment into their vehicles before fleeing the scene.

Police are currently investigating the robbery.

Since 1999 Impulse Drum and Bugle corps has provided a safe, fun, youth centered summer marching experience to students ranging from ages 14 to 21. They are a 501c3 non-profit and most of their staff and support are volunteers. They have traveled the nation competing in Drum Corps International, obtaining many awards and a national championship in 2006. Impulse has served thousands of talented young musicians in its 20 years of existence.

Because Impulse is a relatively small musical group, every piece of equipment plays an important role.

“The current Impulse family will be hit hard by this loss. The equipment that was stolen we were working on selling to support our members and repair some needed items in the corps. As with all trials, I know the Impulse family will come together and we will make sure our 2019 members will still have an educational, exciting and zany experience this summer,” said Corps Director Aaron Zeilinger, who is also an alumnus of the organization.

Impulse says it is now in need of a little assistance, and have currently set up a GoFundMe for any

Donations, which can be found at https://www.gofundme.com/help-impulse-replace-stolen-equipment?member=1556496.
