Will Allbright worked at North American Aviation

DOWNEY –Willard Allbright, USN Retired was born in Dayton, Ohio, on Jan. 12, 1918.  He had been residing at Aegis of Aptos, an assisted living center in Aptos, Calif., when he died June 9.

Will attended the University of Cincinnati where he studied mechanical engineering. Later he studied naval architecture and marine engineering at MIT. He continued to study mechanical engineering at the US Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, Calif.

Will met and married Adele Sedgwick while in Monterey. The Navy would send them to their favorite port of call in Caracas, Venezuela in 1958. After retiring from the Navy with the rank of Commander, Will worked for North American Aviation and for the US Army in Fort Ord.

Will and Adele settled in Aptos and bought a donut shop on Water Street in Santa Cruz which became Allbright’s Donuts.

Will was a member of the Cabrillo Host Lions Club of Aptos and the Military Officers Association of America.

Will is survived by his step-daughters Stephenie Chandler and Donise Ferrel, his daughters-in-law Kathy Sedgwick and Mary Jane Collier, his grandchildren Carla Allbright, Kelly Allbright, Erin Sedgwick and Danny Sedgwick along with numerous great grandchildren.

Will was preceded in death by Adele, his wife of 56 years and by his son, Carl Allbright.

As requested by Will there will be no funeral. A private celebration of his life was held at Aegis of Aptos for Will’s family and caregivers.
