Vivian Rice mourned

DOWNEY – Vivian Marie Myers Rice passed Oct. 16. She was born in Ravenna, Ohio on March 26, 1924. She moved to Maywood when she was 21 and went to work for Sears and Roebuck. Friends introduced her to Eldon Rice in 1947, and in less than nine months, they were married.

The couple moved to Downey in 1953, where they raised their three children. Vivian was very active in PTA at Rio Hondo Elementary, Girl Scouts and the Moravian Church of Downey.

Eldon and Vivian retired in 1983 and were able to travel full-time for the next eight years. They moved to Hemet and lived there until Eldon died in 1996. Vivian moved back to Downey and lived there until her death.

Vivian is survived by her two daughters, Luanne Korn (Donald), Janis Rice; son, Jerry (Karen); grandchildren, Aaron Korn (Janie), Emily Korn Niemeyer (David), Jonathan Korn (Carly), Lisa Line Biesemeyer (Michael), Sephanie Line Fitzpatrick (Brian); great-grandchildren, Samantha and Nathan Korn, Rowen, Finn and Lia Biesemeyer, Quinlan Fitzpatrick, Ellie Niemeyer; sister, Elaine Hofland; and sister-in-law, Dorothy Crebs.

She was predeceased by her husband, Eldon, and her three brothers, Lee, Gene and Allen Burkey.

A memorial service celebrating Vivian’s life will be held Saturday, Nov. 22, at 2 p.m. at the Moravian Church of Downey.
