DOWNEY -- The newly-formed non-profit Downey Foundation for Educational Opportunities (DFEO) is offering VIP packages to the Oct. 27 cross-town rivalry football game between Warren and Downey high schools.

This year's game is at Warren High.

Tickets are $95 and include preferred VIP parking, a campus tour showcasing the school's new facilities, dinner, sideline access during the game, access to a halftime lounge on the pool deck featuring coffee and dessert, choice of Downey or Warren zip pullover, and a commemorative lanyard.

Ticket proceeds will benefit the DFEO, which works to provide DUSD students with greater access to the arts, college preparation, and health and fitness.

"This is an exciting first fundraising event for our education foundation because it's combining a true Downey tradition with giving back," said DFEO president Linda Salomon Saldana.

"We have an amazing district and we want to support it as much as possible by giving Downey's families affordable, accessible and equal options to amazing opportunities that students have in other districts throughout Southern California and across the country."

The foundation currently runs after-school violin, guitar, ukulele and music exploration classes for grades K-8, and offers financial assistance to families in need.

In development or currently running as pilot programs are after-school soccer, dance, fifth grade college tours, and science field trips. The foundation also plans to pay for every 10th grader to take the PSAT whether or not they have planned for college.

VIP tickets can be purchased online at dfeo.org/vip. Check-in begins at 5 p.m. and tours start at 5:30, followed by dinner at 6. Kick-off is at 7 p.m.

Seventy percent of the ticket cost is tax deductible.
