DOWNEY -- Victor R. Plummer was born in Cicero, Ill., to Stella and Frank Plummer and was the fifth of six children. He attended Columbus School where he was among the first group of students to operate motion picture projectors as part of the educational experience in the classroom. 

He graduated from Morton High School and joined the Navy, serving in World War II in the Pacific Theater. 

He worked in the aeronautic industry for 34 years, starting at North American Aviation and retiring from Rockwell International. He loved his career, which took him from the B1 bomber, through the Apollo manned missions, to the Space Shuttle and the many moon landings.

He died of pneumonia and complications of the flu on Jan. 25 surrounded by his three daughters and sons- in -law. 

He and his wife Ann lived in Downey for 65 years and were founding members of St. Raymond’s Catholic Church. They were both greeters and Eucharistic Ministers. 

Plummer was preceded in death by his wife, Ann, and is survived by his three daughters and sons-in-law Suzanne (Glenn), Marshann, Annette (Rick); grandchildren Courtney (Kevin)  Travis, Cody (Stephanie), Caitlin (Jake), and Kurt; great grandchildren Nick and Whitney; brother Frank Plummer of Murietta  California and sister Lorraine Dickhaus of Park Hills Covington Kentucky as well as many nieces and nephews.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Raymond’s Catholic Church at 10:30 a.m. preceded by a viewing. Burial will follow at 1 p.m. at All Souls Cemetery in Long Beach.
